April 1: 7 p.m. Celebrate the Great Salt Lake featuring the movie Whales of the High Desert. Sponsored by Congregation Kol Ami and the Great Salt Lake Interfaith Action Coalition. After the 21-minute film, there will be be a Q/A with the filmmakers and a celebration to honor "Great Salt Lake champions." Seating is limited. Register for free by March 31. 

April 20, 1-4:30 p.m. Youth Coalition for Great Salt Lake's Saline Symposium and Celebration. "Learn more about the crisis facing Great Salt Lake from youth and adult leaders and discover many ways to get involved to help. Join in a joyous and fun celebration of Great Salt Lake and the life it sustains through music, poetry, dance, and film!" Speakers include youth who will highlight how the lake's fate affects their future and ways to help; youth-led panel discussion with west-side leaders and lawmakers; dance and musical performances. April 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Premiere of Great Salt Lake film called Illusion of Abundance. Followed by discussion with film contributors and lake experts at Great Salt Lake Institute. "Embark on a cinematic journey exploring Great Salt Lake, where indigenous voices, artistic expression, and mesmerizing dance converge to create Illusion of Abundance. This short film premiere by Brolly Arts serves as a catalyst to inspire action, urging viewers to engage with environmental stewardship and fostering a deeper connection with nature. Join us for an evening that aims to touch hearts and minds, celebrating the lake's beauty and promoting collective responsibility." More information and tickets for the free event here.     

Through May 1: PBS Utah's Writers and Illustrators Contest. Children in grades K-6 can  submit their stories based on the theme "Our Water, Our Future.” Stories are accepted in Spanish and English, online or via mail. Rules and guidelines, as well as work from previous winners can be found at pbsutah.org/writers.

Through May 31: Call for submissions for the Great Salt Lake Collaborative's 2024 anthology. We want your written and visual work that imagines a future in which the lake is saved and restored. Or dries up. Or haunts the land and people. And/or some other possibility for the lake. The theme is Lake as Legacy/Lake as Future. Share this with the authors and artists 15 years old and older in your life. Click here for more details.
